BuddyPress 1.0 ist verfügbar

Ein Jahr nach der Übernahme der Open Source Social Network Applikation “BuddyPress” durch Automattic wurde vor ein paar Tagen die Version 1.0 der “Social Network” Erweiterung für WordPress MU veröffentlicht.

BuddyPress erweitert WordPress MU um Social Network Funktionen, mit denen sich Benutzer einzeln, in Gruppen oder Foren miteinander austauschen können.

Für die BuddyPress Installation wird derzeit eine WordPress MU Installation mit der Version 2.71 vorausgesetzt. Die aktuelle Version können Sie sich bei WordPress MU Deutschland downloaden.

Ihr könnt Euch aber auch direkt eine deutschsprachige BuddyPress Version herunterladen die BuddyPress und die aktuelle WordPress MU Version beinhaltet.

Aktuell ist nur eine englischsprache Installationsanleitung verfügbar, die deutsche soll in den nächsten Tagen veröffentlicht werden.

Matt hat angekündigt, dass Automattic Andy Peatling an Board geholt hat. Andy ist der Entwickler des Projekts BuddyPress, das er aus zeitlichen Gründen vor einiger Zeit eingestellt hat. BuddyPress erweitert WordPress MU in eine “Social Network Plattform“.

Damit ist wohl auch der zukünftige Weg von WordPress.com vorgezeichnet, die Blogplattform wird sich in Zukunft verstärkt in ein “Social Network” verwandeln.

Details zu BuddyPress sind noch nicht bekannt, auf der “About”-Seite des Projekts (inzwischen nicht mehr verfügbar) konnte man folgendes nachlesen:

BuddyPress will completely transform a vanilla installation of WordPress MU into a fully functional social network platform.

When I wrote about turning WordPress MU into a social networking platform a little while back I never could have imagined the amount of interest it would generate. BuddyPress is my answer to that interest.

BuddyPress is not yet released. I’ll put that out there right now. It is in active development however, and this blog acts as a window into the decision making process and the status of BuddyPress development.

BuddyPress will come as a suite of WordPress MU plugins that will work seamlessly together. Each plugin handles a separate BuddyPress feature, meaning you can pick and choose which features you want to include.

Currently I’ve identified seven areas for which I’m developing plugins for. These plugins will make up the base functionality of BuddyPress. My hope is to get these out in the wild and then consider new components once the core is stable.

BuddyPress will be free, and under GPL. This means it will be open source and free for you to download, use and/or modify.

Also, the buddypress.com domain is in the process of being moved, so further updates on the project will be available there once the move has been completed.

Inwieweit sich die Entwicklung auch auf künftige Versionen von WordPress auswirken wird, läßt sich jetzt noch nicht sagen, aber wie es bei Automattic üblich ist, wird wohl auch dieses Projekt nicht einfach an an WordPress vorbeigehen.

BuddyPress wird unter der GPL entwickelt und eines Tages frei verfügbar sein:

Inwieweit es die Lanschaft der sozialen Netzwerke verändern oder beinflussen wird, bleibt abzuwarten.
